My name is Mark Olson
I was born and raised in Maplewood MN. and with the exception of 2 years in the mid 1980's , have lived in the area my whole life. My wife and I have resided in White Bear since 1997.
I have been building one thing or another now for 32 years. I started right out of high school as a carpenters helper building decks and small room additions.
In the fall of 1978, I attended what was known back then as St. Paul Technical and Vocational Institute, now called St. Paul Technical College taking their 2 year carpentry program.
I finished that program in the spring of 1980 and got my first full time job with a small remodeling firm in St. Paul.
During the time of my employment with them, I was also doing my own work on the "side" as they say, until the company closed in 1984. It was then that I started my own busines known as M. Olson Construction. I soon converted to what is now known as Applewood Builders & Cabinetmakers inc.
As my name states, I also had a cabinet shop that focused on strictly custom work and specialty furniture. Since 1997, I have not run the cabinet shop, however I still do that type of work out of a building on the property where I live.
Over the years I have done everything from new homes to kitchen, bath, and basement finishes, 2nd story additions, jobs large and small.
In May of 2008 we expanded by hiring 2 carpenters who work full time with me. They also received training at St. Paul Technical College and are now a very important part of Applewood Builders. I rely on them more and more as we are now able to handle all jobs large and small.
I also work very hard to keep a professional group of Sub-Contractors available to us for other aspects of the job at hand. I have worked with my "Subs" for many years and I trust you will see the value in them as I do, as they take part in helping us complete your projects.
I am also putting all these years of experience to work by doing fee paid private home inspections filling a fast growing need in our area.
I look forward to talking to you and finding out how I can help you in whatever project it is you are thinking about doing, or inspecting that next home you want to buy.
Thanks for checking into us and I hope to talk to you soon.
